With no sense of measure, balance, proportion, and context liberals use moral relativism to focus national attention on emotional narratives that are completely divorced from the important macro-narrative that drives a given policy. Nonetheless, once liberals successfully use their false narratives to legitimize the most radical policies, Republicans accept much of their premise and stake out the right goal post of an issue only a few levels away.  This in turn permanently shifts the contours of the debate to the far left and delegitimizes anything beyond those contours, even if it was a view held even by Democrats just one generation ago.
