Geographically, it’s a very small state, with a drive from the coast to its Western edge taking just a few hours. Yet few other parts of the country have had as much of a historical and modern impact on the United States as Massachusetts. It takes up less land than seven different counties in the US, and can fit into Alaska 63 times over, but is home to nearly seven million people, and contains the tenth largest urban area in the country, in addition to several of the most prestigious universities on Earth.
