Summary
<p>The ongoing war in Ukraine continues to take a toll on the lives of
millions of women who have fled Ukraine and on those displaced within
the country. My guest today is a Ukrainian civil society leader, who has
spoken out about the need to restore a faith in humanity that Ukrainian
women and children have lost in the war. Russia not only tries to strip
Ukraine of its sovereignty, but the country’s people of their agency
and dignity. Women and girls are especially affected by the war, and an
increased risk of life-threatening gender-based violence. Russia has
weaponized violence against women, as a strategy of war, a weapon of
terror, but Ukrainians refuse to submit to the aggressor, or to be
afraid.

Hanna Hopko is a Ukrainian civil society leader and politician, a former
Member of Parliament, and head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of
Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada. She is the founder and Head of the Board of
ANTS National Interests Advocacy Network, Head of the Democracy in
Action Conference, co-founder of the International Centre for Ukrainian
Victory, and Warsaw Security Forum International Advisory Council
member. Hanna is an expert in advocacy, on Russian expansionism and
hybrid warfare. She was one of the civic leaders of the EuroMaidan –
Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity.
