Summary
How many calories do you burn in a day?
In this episode, I’m going to break down the 4 factors that determine how many calories you burn on a daily basis.
I’ll define all 4, talk about how big of factor they are, and how you can modify them so they work for you and not against you.
Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is made up of 4 factors:
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
BMR accounts for 60-70% of TDEE
Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT)
NEAT accounts for 15-50% of TDEE
Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (EAT)
EAT accounts for 15-30% of TDEE
Thermic Effect of Food (TEF)
TEF accounts for 8-15% of TDEE
*percentages were taken from the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition*
