Must I Love Jesus to be Saved?

<p>Our Listener asks, "Hello, I’d like to thank you for your quick</p>

<p> response to my previous question. However,</p>

<p> now I have a question regarding another</p>

<p> verse. It might seem a bit nitpicky, or overly</p>

<p> critical in a sense, and I apologize if that’s the </p>

<p>case, but in John 8:42 where Christ states, ‘Jesus </p>

<p>said unto them, If God were your Father, ye </p>

<p>would love me: for I proceeded forth and </p>

<p>came from God; neither came I of myself, but </p>

<p>he sent me.’ The issue I see with this verse is the use of </p>

<p>the word ‘love.’ Does the word ‘love’ here just </p>

<p>refer to believers receiving Jesus as their</p>

<p> Messiah, in stark contrast to the intense</p>

<p> hatred of the Pharisees who rejected and </p>

<p>wanted to kill him, or does it imply something beyond mere </p>

<p>belief, or some level of obedience considering </p>

<p>how Jesus equates loving him to keeping </p>

<p>his commandments later in John’s gospel.</p>

<p> Do all believers necessarily ‘love’ Jesus after</p>

<p>having believed on him?”</p>
