Reported live by The Today Show and Sydney reporter Eddy Meyer, the segment highlights some of the nation's most remarkable recipients. Leading the awards is former senator Natasha Stott Despoja AO, who received Australia’s highest honour for her tireless global efforts to prevent domestic, family, and sexual violence. Speaking on the award, she noted she was deeply "overwhelmed" by the enormity and generosity of the accolade.
Also recognized as a Member of the Order of Australia is Christine Holgate, the highly successful business executive and former chief executive of Australia Post, famously targeted in a highly public watch dispute by former Prime Minister Scott Morrison. Additionally, the list honours Victoria Police Detective Inspector Dean Thomas, who led the intensive, high-profile criminal investigation into mushroom poison killer Erin Patterson.
From the entertainment world, beloved comedian and TV host Rove McManus is celebrated for an incredible, decades-long career in broadcasting, jokingly noting that while others have saved lives, he simply "tells jokes." In a bittersweet break from protocol, revered ABC radio host and jazz musician James Valentine was quietly presented with his honour weeks before his tragic passing from cancer.
