3:39Now PlayingA South Australian Police officer is recovering in hospital after suffering a dangerous neck injury during a horrifying daylight attack in Elizabeth East, Adelaide.
Emergency services responded to multiple urgent public calls reporting a 27-year-old man armed with a knife along Main North Road. Northern District officers immediately confronted the suspect near Fairfield Road to neutralize the threat and protect the community. During the violent confrontation, the suspect stabbed a female police officer in the neck before being shot in the leg by responding police officers.
The injured female officer was rushed to hospital in a serious condition and underwent emergency surgery. Acting Assistant Commissioner David O'Donovan confirmed she is in high spirits despite facing a long recovery. The suspect was also taken into custody under police guard and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He is expected to face severe criminal charges as Major Crime Detectives and Forensic Response teams continue their investigation at the scene.
Reporting live from Adelaide, Nine Network Today reporter Bianca Wylie provides the latest updates on the officer's condition and the ongoing investigation. Speaking on the violent incident, Acting Assistant Commissioner David O'Donovan commended the brave police team: "It’s a stark reminder of the dangers that police face on a daily basis... we have to acknowledge the courage and the professionalism of our police."
