Here we go again! Denver soars into record territory Friday afternoon with highs in the upper 90s to perhaps the triple digits. The current record high is 100 degrees, set in 1876. We're calling for a high of 98, which would fall just shy of that record.
Breezier conditions will pick up during the afternoon hours, with another round of scattered showers and storms west of the Continental Divide. Anyone near the burn scar areas should watch for localized flash flooding, and one or two of those storms could make it into the foothills north of Denver (mainly west of Fort Collins).
High pressure continues as the dominant weather feature for our region. It'll keep us sizzling hot this weekend with highs returning to the mid-90s through Sunday. The ridge will likely weaken and push eastward as we head through the second half of the weekend, giving us a few isolated storms for both Saturday and Sunday evening.
The next high-impact weather-maker to watch for comes on Monday, with soaking showers and storms along a cold front that could lead to flash flooding around the Denver area. Look for some areas to pick up over an inch of rain, and a few areas could see more than that.
Next week looks much more refreshing otherwise, with widespread showers and storms on Tuesday and much cooler temperatures. We may not get out of the 70s for a few days next week!
