Eight teens have been arrested in connection with multiple attacks that occurred on RTD light rail trains in recent weeks.
Seven of them were taken into custody at Long View High School on West 2nd Place on Friday, Nov. 11, according to a Lakewood Police spokesman. The arrests were related to two assaults that occurred on light rail trains on Oct. 14 and Nov. 4. They range in age from 15 to 17 and were each charged with one count of second-degree assault, according to the district attorney's office.
A 45-year-old man was the victim of a random attack by the group of teens while riding the RTD light rail train, according to prosecutors. The victim reported that he was pushed out of the train by the suspects at the W 13th Avenue and Garrison Street station on Oct. 14.
An agent of the Lakewood Police Department who was conducting extra patrol at that time was flagged down to respond. The victim was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital and treated for serious injuries.
