as posted by the channelWind Chill Warnings will be in effect for most of Colorado through midday Friday, due to wind chill values dropping as low as 50 degrees below zero. This could cause frost bite on exposed skin in a matter of just 5 minutes!
Additionally, behind this extreme cold front, scattered snow showers are pushing in from the north. Denver can expect 2 to 4 inches of snowfall by early Thursday morning, when lingering showers push southward, leading to midday clearing.
Northern portions of the high country, foothills, front range and eastern plains and southern mountain ranges will be under Winter Weather Advisories through midday Thursday. These areas can expect between 2 to 8 inches of snowfall, with winds gusting between 45 to 80 mph.
The northeastern corner of Colorado, and some central portions of the high country, will be under a Winter Storm Warning until midday Thursday. These areas can expect 4 to 12 inches of snow, with winds gusting between 55 to 80 mph.
A High Wind Warning will be placed over the northern and southern Sangre de Cristo mountains from 11 p.m. Wednesday through 11 a.m. Thursday. This area can expect winds gusting up to 75 mph.
Early Thursday, lingering snow showers move south, then out of the state completely. Despite the departure of precipitation, dangerously cold weather sticks around. Northern counties across the front range, eastern plains can expect afternoon highs to stay below zero, while southern counties will max out in the single-digits.
Lows drop to 10 degrees below zero overnight Thursday, before temperatures start to rebound as we head into the holiday weekend.
