0:27Now PlayingAurora City Council approved a plan to create a volunteer reserve police force. The city's police department is short on staff. So the reserve police force would bring on unpaid officers to fill the gaps.
The reserve officers will be fully certified and armed, just like normal officers. In other communities that do this - the volunteers tend to have a background in the military or law enforcement and have a different day job.
The ordinance passed Aurora City Council tonight, 8 to 2.
