Some insurance companies have extended that timeline already from 12 to 24 months. But hundreds of homeowners have yet to rebuild.
Individual insurance companies could potentially work with a homeowner to extend their coverage - especially if they already have building plans in motion.
And both the state Department of Insurance and a spokesperson for the insurance industry here in Colorado said people should ask for it. Of the more than 1,000 homes destroyed, only about 200 have permitted clearance to move in so far.
