5:33Now PlayingThe Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has issued mandatory evacuation orders for nearly 600 homes due to a wildfire burning near Deer Creek Canyon southwest of Denver.
The evacuation order is in effect for the Deer Creek Mesa, Sampson and Maxwell subdivisions southwest of Ken Caryl, the sheriff's office said. That initial evacuation order covered about 300 homes, sheriff's office spokesperson Mark Techmeyer said. Deputies and firefighters knocked on doors and sent emergency alerts to notify residents of the evacuation order.
