Arctic cold, snow coming to Colorado: Here's what we're tracking

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team now has enough confidence in the frigid weekend to put 9NEWS Weather Impact Days into effect for all day Saturday, all day Sunday and Monday morning.
Friday night will also likely end up being an impact day, but the precise timing of the initial front of the Arctic air is still in some question.
When the front does arrive, expect gusty winds, a steep temperature drop (especially if it comes early), and snow will develop shortly after the arctic air.
Saturday's impact day is for a mix of cold temperatures and a few inches of snow. The modeling has been consistently showing about 2-6" of snow on the urban I-25 corridor and much of the Eastern Plains. 4-8 inches in the foothills and higher suburbs, but very little snow west of the Continental Divide. Temperatures in Denver will likely be in the teens from start to finish on Saturday.
Blizzard conditions are possible on the Eastern Plains on Saturday, likely leading to widespread issues on Interstate 70 and Interstate 76 east of Denver on Saturday in particular.
Sunday's impact day is for extreme cold temperatures. The current forecast starts Denver out around -5 and only gets up to about 6 degrees as a high temperature for the day. Light snow will occasionally be possible on Sunday.
And Monday morning will likely feature the coldest temperatures of the event with the current potential in the -8 to -18 degree range. Overall, Denver could be below freezing for at least 72 hours all together.
This has a similar look to the MLK Day cold snap last year, with the potential for a December 2022-like cold snap which ended up delivering four morning lows at -10 degrees or colder with -19 on two mornings.
