Colorado could see dramatic weather shift with snow, thunderstorms next week

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team is tracking the potential for winter weather and snow, as well as thunderstorms and rain, for Monday. The potential system looks to bring much cooler temperatures as well.
"If current modeling pans out, it’d be a Colorado meteorological potpourri next Monday-Wednesday. [Colorado] could have both severe storms and significant snow," said 9NEWS Weather Impact meteorologist Chris Bianchi.
The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has issued Potential Weather Impact Alert days for next Tuesday because of the growing possibility for a rain-snow mix, including the possibility for Colorado's first stronger thunderstorms of the year and some healthy snow to follow.
A storm system passing off to our south could lead to some southern Colorado rain or snow showers as early as Sunday, but the main action won't arrive until later on Monday.
The storm system arrives from the west, perhaps leading to the state's first thunderstorms of the season on Monday evening for parts of the eastern plains, potentially including Denver.
Monday evening, a flip to snow occurs, with the possibility for a few inches of accumulation, especially above 6,000 feet in elevation. This'll mostly be during the day on Tuesday.
This is a storm with higher end potential, but it does look too warm for most lower elevations (below 6,000 feet) to see a big storm. The Palmer Divide and foothills could be in for six inches or more of heavy, wet accumulation.
"When we get these pattern flips this time of the year, they're usually active," Bianchi said.
