40:43Now PlayingGov. Jared Polis is requesting additional money from Colorado's Joint Budget Committee to assist those who rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
Polis is requesting $10 million – $3.3 million every two weeks – from the state General Fund in emergency food bank assistance to support food banks and pantries, and to extend funding for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition access through November. WIC supports food access for nearly 100,000 women and children in Colorado, the governor's office said.
The governor's office also announced a philanthropic initiative through Feeding Colorado that invites residents and businesses to donate to support the demand for food assistance. The office also launched an online map that shows where Coloradans must rely on SNAP.
