0:44Now PlayingGov. Jared Polis is requesting additional money from Colorado's Joint Budget Committee to assist those who rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
Polis is requesting $10 million – $3.3 million every two weeks – from the state General Fund in emergency food bank assistance to support food banks and pantries. The governor's request would cover six weeks of assistance to SNAP, from the start of November to mid-December. If the federal government shutdown ends during those six weeks, the state emergency funding would also end at that time, Polis said.
