Oct 23, 20259:15Now PlayingDenver native Chauncey Billups, who was is facing federal charges in connection with a scheme involving rigged poker games, has deep connections to Colorado sports.
Billups, now the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, was arrested Thursday along with more than 30 other people in two criminal cases alleging sprawling separate schemes to rake in millions by rigging sports bets and poker games involving Mafia families, authorities said. Billups was charged with participating in a conspiracy to fix high-stakes card games in Las Vegas, Miami, Manhattan and the Hamptons that were backed by La Cosa Nostra Crime families.
He has been placed on leave from the Trail Blazers, according to the NBA.
Billups, 49, graduated from George Washington High School, where he was a two-time state basketball champion, in 1995. The school's basketball court is named for him.
