1:03Now PlayingEver wonder what it's like to be ice dance partners? Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko give an honest look at their unique relationship in this candid clip. The duo spends 4-5 hours together every single day, Monday through Friday, plus additional time communicating to stay on the same page.
They rarely go more than a few weeks apart—usually only on vacation, and even then they're texting. Anthony recalls that when he had surgery four years ago, it was the longest period they didn't communicate, and it was sad for both of them. The partners have become so intertwined in each other's lives that they already talk about what will happen when they retire: traveling with different people, not working together every day. It feels strange to even imagine.
For now, they're focusing on enjoying every moment of the years they have together, recognizing how special their partnership is. They're doing mental training work not just for competition—but to prepare for the eventual day when they won't be skating side by side anymore.
