2:16Now PlayingDenver Mayor Mike Johnston has signed a new contract to extend the city's use of Flock license plate tracking cameras, about two weeks after first announcing he was unilaterally keeping the cameras on.
But a legal expert in surveillance use by local government warns that a clause buried at the end of the agreement may undermine claims that the city has full control over its data.
The contract amendment, obtained by 9NEWS, includes language stating that "Flock reserves the right to respond immediately to urgent law enforcement requests for information as outlined in our Evidence Policy." The policy further notes that "Flock notifies a customer after disclosing data in response to an emergency request except in certain circumstances, such as when Flock is prohibited from doing so by law."
