Gonzales, a progressive Democrat, was elected to represent Denver as a state Senator in 2018 and was reelected in 2022 without opposition. Gonzales has spent her time in office focusing on affordable housing and strengthening protections for immigrant communities. She was also a prime sponsor for bills repealing the death penalty in Colorado.
