Original Roma pizza restaurant closing in Greeley after 38 years

A Greeley pizza restaurant is closing its doors after 38 years.

The Original Roma restaurant announced its final day of operation will be Tuesday, Dec. 30.

"It is with heavy hearts — and after a great deal of careful consideration, especially for our hardworking staff — that we announce The Original Roma off of 16th will be closing at the end of the month," the restaurant shared on social media.

Located at 8th Avenue and 16th Street, across the street from the University of Northern Colorado campus, Roma first opened in 1988 and is known for its unique pizza menu and large "bazooka" draft beers.

"We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but we do know how much effort has gone into trying to make things work amid the current conditions in our city and the ongoing construction," the restaurant said. "Unfortunately, we’ve found ourselves in a constant battle with the City of Greeley — from liquor enforcement challenges to construction and parking issues, including both customers and staff receiving parking tickets. As lifelong Greeley residents, it’s been incredibly disheartening to feel a lack of support for small businesses and a missed opportunity for true community collaboration."
