1:41Now PlayingFormer U.S. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, a trailblazing Native American lawmaker who represented Colorado in Congress for more than two decades, died Tuesday of natural causes at age 92.
Nighthorse Campbell, who served in the House from 1987 to 1993 and the Senate from 1993 to 2005, was the first Native American elected to the U.S. Senate from Colorado and became known for his bipartisan approach to governance and advocacy for Native American communities. Political leaders from both parties paid tribute to the former senator following news of his death.
