It's time to plant flowers: Colorado gardeners begin planting annuals

I hope your garden isn't as chaotic as mine. We've got our Proctor's Garden tour coming up June 6 and June 7.

My little greenhouse is stuffed. Flats of saved geraniums crowd the patio. It's time to plant.

We're concentrating on petunias. Bowls of pink 'Bubblegum' petunias on columns lining the perennial borders are a signature of the garden. "Bubblegum" is a great petunia. It's vigorous and blooms all summer. It doesn't need deadheading because it's sterile and doesn't set seed.

"Wave" petunias are also vigorous and floriferous. We're using a blue variety that sure looks purple to me in combination with "Rocky Mountain Salmon" geraniums and chartreuse sweet potato vine.

I'm also fond of double petunias. They fell out of fashion for 50 years but they're back. They require more work. They need constant feeding to keep blooming. They must be deadheaded regularly as well.

We're also planting smaller bowls of marigolds for bursts of bright color on the patio. This is just the start to many days of planting.
