0:52Now PlayingA bronze statue that was stolen from Greeley's Glenmere Park in broad daylight last week has been found, but the mystery of who stole it remains unsolved.
Greeley Police said “The Prize Catch,” a life-size bronze sculpture depicting a little boy holding a fish, was stolen around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators believe thieves cut the statue off at the feet to remove it from its base before taking it from the park.
On Sunday, police said that the day after the statue was stolen, staff at Rocky Mountain Recycling realized a statue sold to their facility the previous night matched the description of the one posted in the police department's news release. They immediately secured it and notified detectives.
The artwork has now been returned to Greeley's parks department, but police said the investigation is ongoing. Investigators believe a white box truck seen in the immediate area around the time of the theft may be connected to the case.
