0:25Now PlayingWestbound lanes of C-470 reopened Wednesday morning after a truck fire in the southwest Denver metro area.
At about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, a semi hauling potatoes caught fire between U.S. Highway 285 and Morrison Road, according to West Metro Fire Rescue. Drivers passing by spotted the flames and called 911, West Metro Fire said.
The fire started a small grass fire along the shoulder of the highway that was quickly contained before it could spread, according to West Metro Fire. Foothills Fire responded with a water tender to assist West Metro Fire.
The driver of the semi was able to get out safely and was not injured, West Metro Fire said.
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, westbound lanes of the highway were closed between U.S. Highway 285 and Morrison Road. Westbound lanes reopened just before 6 a.m., according to cotrip.org.
