And as those wildfires stick around, the smoke is joining the ozone in the air. That's creating air quality alerts for much of the state and with it, bad air to breathe in.
The air quality in Denver is now ranked the worst in the country and 10th worst in the world, according to air quality monitors. State meteorologists say the metro area together with Denver's geography create a kind of sink effect where the pollution builds up and can't really escape. That's making some people sick.
