In order to deal with the huge expansion of customs checks required of Boris Johnson's hard brexit, Michael Gove talked about recruiting an extra 50 thousands new customs agents. However, we have no confirmation of how may have been recruited, to say nothing of trained and ready for the end of the transition period. In addition, some of the money that was supposed to be used to recruit and train new staff has been claimed for existing and experienced customs agents.
