But there are Tory MPs, including the whips, who fear that this smear campaign has the power to do them harm and Labour good. However beergate turns out, all it does is highlight how much worse the Conservatives are than Labour. That being said, Keir Starmer has been playing this situation very poorly. He needs to do much better against these political attacks than he has been.
