As a long time opponent of first past the post, I tend to think of electoral systems in terms of representing voters, which the system we have in the UK does not. But there may be a more practical problem in Britain now. With Labour and the Conservatives, over time, getting a smaller collective share of the vote, it might be that, fair or not, our current system cannot even sustain stable governments in the future.
