When Bundaberg bee keeper Kai Gerschau went to check on his native bee hives this week he was faced with an unusual scene - a massive rolling black cloud of the insects surrounding four of his hives.
He thought they might be mating, but a quick look at the carnage soon revealed it wasn't love - it was war.
Kallee Buchanan braved the swarm to take a closer look. Luckily these are sting-less native bees Tetragonula hockingsi.
