Rick Sullivan, a boy from Balmain, found his true self in the wilds of Western Australia. His experiences and the people he met as a teenager made him the man he is today.

As a young boy growing up in Newcastle, Rick Sullivan was suddenly placed in an orphanage when his parents divorced, and he later witnessed alcohol and domestic violence.

But throughout it all, the bush was calling for him.

Eventually, at the age of fifteen, Rick found himself working on a cattle station in the middle of the outback in Western Australia.

As a young man working on that station, Rick experienced so much more than just rustling up cattle, he was taught how to be a man.

Fifty years on and Rick has returned to the station along with two of his mates, as he shares the importance of mate-ship and not giving up.
