To some, cats are loveable creatures, to others they are killing machines.
But some cat lovers are going to extreme lengths to prevent their furbabies from attacking the native wildlife.
They have built extravagant cat enclosures, also known as catios, with tunnels, cabins, climbing logs and scratch pads.
While these cat playgrounds may sound like fun, they are also an essential tool in protecting endangered species.
The catios have been built in the south west of WA, the only place in the world where the western ringtail possum is found.
Cats are threatening the critically endangered species and conservationists are hoping more cat owners will build catios to protect the marsupial.
