Colin Cathew converted a 1985 coaster schoolbus, which he bought for $600, into an escape vehicle for his family in the event of emergencies.

Colin’s bus, named Albie Trundle, is self-sufficient with 500W of rooftop solar panels running at 24v, a 3,000w sine wave inverter, and rainwater-harvesting mechanisms.
The bus pulls a trailer full of tools and camping equipment to get them out of any bind nature can throw at them.
And he’s also prepared for total loss, with a grab-bag of essentials, food, and communication equipment to keep his family safe if they must ditch the bus.
