2:53Now PlayingTownsville tattoo artist Les Bowen has been inking bodies for 61 years. He started out tattooing his friends as a teenager with sewing needles tied to a cork. Bowen has seen tattooing change from a secretive underground industry inhabited by “gangsters and sailors” to a popular art-form. Of all the changes to the tattoo industry over the past six decades it is the loss of the underground "mystique" that Les Bowen said he misses most. "I sort of miss the bad boy thing, I miss the design sheets on the wall, I miss the simplicity of it, it has become a very complicated business," Bowen said.
