John Stafford was a high-flying Fairfax executive in Sydney before deciding to retire to a quiet life in the NSW Southern Tablelands.
He and his wife bought a 25-acre section near Taralga and their love of birds and animals eventually turned into a fully functioning wildlife park that has become a popular visitor attraction for the small village.
Due to his experience of trying to get a licence for the zoo, John decided to run for local council.
Unexpectedly, after two years as a Councillor, he found himself elected Mayor of the local shire.
He’s now balancing running a zoo and a council and is finding the whole experience incredibly rewarding and frustrating.
