The thought of leaving her house for the first time after giving birth was incredibly daunting for new mum Elysse Bird. But she joined a mums and bubs rehabilitation program at her local gym.

Not only did this give her confidence to go outside, it has also been an enormous step in her physical recovery after giving birth.

What happens to our bodies during pregnancy and childbirth are rarely spoken about but this is something a pair of physiotherapists are changing.

Elysse is one of 100 women who have taken part in a specialised mums and bubs exercise program, designed and personally tested by Chloe Petith.

Too often, women choose the wrong – or no – exercise that can have long-term implications.

This is part of a wider women's health program that her boss and fellow physio Micheline Hansen has devised.

It is about ending the silence surrounding the physical issues post-birth, including the fear of having sex, separated tummy muscles and incontinence.
