Uncertainty hangs over the heart of Australia’s coal country, which again featured heavily in the 2022 election campaign. Last federal election these electorates helped the Coalition to a surprise win, with communities angry over their voices being ignored in the national conversation about the future of coal.
While many voted for the Coalition it was also votes for minor parties that helped the Government build its lead. But three years on, with a lack of job security, basic services and the soaring cost of living, these Queenslanders still feel forgotten.
