John was fishing approximately 50km east of Albany when he spotted a white blob floating in the distance. He flew his drone towards it and was shocked to discover a humpback whale carcass being fed on by dozens of sharks. Dr. Stephen Taylor, from the WA Department of Primary Industries, Research and Development, says events like this aren’t as unusual as you might think. He said the footage is useful because it helps researchers learn more about shark behaviour and the occurrence of whale carcasses.
