3:52Now PlayingIn Kowanyama, a remote Indigenous township in Queensland’s far north, roving dog packs are normal. The western Cape York community has a problem with loose dogs – they fight; they breed uncontrollably; they attack other animals and sometimes turn their attention on humans.
A small group of people is pushing to change the way the community cares for their pets, treating and desexing dozens of dogs on each vet visit and reducing the risk of diseases spreading through both the canine and human populations. But in a community with one registered dog for every 2.5 people, and many more unregistered animals, it’s a big job.
