Dr Duane Hamacher has spent much of his life looking up.

From his childhood in rural Missouri, to feeling like he was falling into the Milky Way in the Central Desert, Duane has always been captivated by stars.

It’s there he found the meeting point between two vast systems of knowledge.

Western science has for a long time ignored the 65,000 years of observation, deduction, and experimentation of Indigenous astronomy.

Working over many years with several Indigenous Elders, Duane has published The First Astronomers, a complete overview of traditional First Nations star knowledge.
