Chris Gibson grew up playing guitar and lusting after a certain, prestige model of the instrument in his local music store.
As an adult his interest in guitars has taken a different turn. He's spent the past few years travelling the world hunting the source of timbers, such as spruce and rosewood, that are used in their manufacture.
To make a kind of origin map of the ubiquitous instrument, Chris and fellow geographer, Andrew Warren, met with people up and down the supply chain.
Their journey took them to Spain, where guitars are still hand made by artisans; to guitar factories in California, China and Melbourne, and to forests where the rare timbers that make up the guitar have been growing for thousands of years.
