as posted by the channel21 year-old Peter Wissink has had mental health issues for most of his young life. But when he steps into the ocean, he’s reconnected with the world and at peace.
For the past six weeks he’s taken part in a surf therapy program in Margaret River, in the South West of WA. The program mixes clinical group therapy sessions with surfing.
The participants are mostly new to surfing, and the aim is to take the skills they’ve used on the sand into the ocean. The facilitators say taking therapy outside and into the environment has helped these young people find new ways to cope with their mental health issues.
