Konomie, or North Keppel Island, is home to an Environmental Education Centre run by the Queensland government.
Throughout the school year 2,500 students stay on the island for school camp, where they learn about climate change, First Nations culture and sustainable living.
To power the centre, the Queensland government has spent $1.4 million to build the largest renewable energy system on a state school site.
