as posted by the channelWhen a young Charlie Salvestro was faced with the prospect of moving to either Australia or Canada from Italy in the early 1950s, the choice was a no-brainer.
"We don't want to go to Canada, it's too cold," the then 13-year-old Charlie told his father.
So, Charlie can still remember his surprise when faced with the "very cold" New South Wales Snowy Mountains weather upon his arrival in Australia.
"We arrived in Cooma in June, in the middle of winter," Charlie, now 86, said.
The Salvestro family moved to the NSW alps to work on Australia's largest-ever engineering project: the Snowy Hydro Electric Scheme.
And now, the family's connection to Snowy Hydro has remained for generations.
