Zainab Al-Eqabi is an Iraqi woman on a mission to spread awareness on physical disabilities, foster the acceptance of individuals with special needs, and encourage a more compassionate society. A life-changing accident as a child in Iraq followed by medical mistreatment left Zainab without a leg. As an amputee, she is challenging mindsets with undying will and determination. But what did it take to build her character?

Growing up, Zainab was always reminded by her father's words; "Our society has no sympathy. I do not want you to be broken in front of them." In this interview, she describes her father's protectiveness and how her mother is the unseen hero in her story. She talks about the sacrifices her mother has endured to hold the family together. Does she blame herself for the accident and the consequences it has had on the people dearest to her? Zainab definitely has a tough shield, but is it all a front?
