as posted by the channelSen. Bernie Sanders called out insufficient COVID-19 relief for workers and asked Congress to offer at least $1,200 in stimulus funding. Soon afterward Congress passed a bill that provides individuals with just one $600 check, the first since checks were issued in March.
“One $1,200 check for tens of millions of Americans desperately trying to survive. That is unconscionable. That is immoral,” Sen. Sanders said.
He compared the amount of the relief check to a $740 billion defense bill and tax cuts Congress recently passed that will cost taxpayers billion of dollars, even as U.S. billionaires have gained $1 trillion during the pandemic.
“For nine months, we have asked tens of millions of working people in this country to survive on one $1,200 check — with no help for health care, no support for hazard pay, no assistance for rent relief. Absolutely nothing.”
