And they’re going to dramatic lengths to make their voices heard, occupying highways and setting up huge camps. Farmers insist the laws would push them further into debt and leave them vulnerable to exploitation by corporations. But the government is cracking down, and India has seen a wave of police violence, censorship, nationalist propaganda and jailing of activists and journalists. Still, support for the farmers is growing.
