In his first remarks of Tuesday's Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Brett Kavanaugh said a judge “must be independent" and "interpret the law, not make the law.” Speaking before his wife, two daughters and the Senate Judiciary Committee, Kavanaugh, who was accused by Democrats of partisanship during Tuesday's hearing, argued that he is an impartial arbitrator who reveres the Constitution. He also stressed that the Supreme Court must never be viewed as a partisan organization.
