0:48Now PlayingDemocratic Sen. Mazie Hirono appeared to take issue Thursday with the line of questioning from Phoenix prosecutor Rachel Mitchell, chosen by Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee to interview Christine Blasey Ford.
"This is not a criminal proceeding. This is a confirmation proceeding," the Hawaii senator said at the top of her questioning to Christine Blasey Ford.
Hirono then asked Ford if there was a political motivation on her coming forward with her allegation of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Ford said no, adding that she first raised her concerns to lawmakers and the Washington Post earlier this summer, when Kavanaugh was on a short list for Supreme Court consideration.
